Remnant Framing Friday Blog: Layers of Light and Space
November 15, 2024
The studio this week felt like a quiet storm of creativity. Days began with the soft shuffle of watercolor paper and ended with the hum of a completed gallery wall, illuminated by warm light. There’s something magnetic about watching ideas transform into tangible beauty, framed and ready to tell their story.
A Glow in the Shadows: Yuri Ozaki’s Watercolors
Midweek, Yuri Ozaki arrived with a stack of her original watercolors, each one radiating the kind of soft, glowing light that seems to linger long after you look away. These pieces, destined for the Candlelight exhibit opening after Thanksgiving, carry a sense of quiet reverence—like they’ve captured the air of a hushed room lit by a single flame.
Handling artwork like Yuri’s always shifts something in me. There’s a need to slow down, to ensure that every material I choose for framing complements her work’s quiet power.
Chris Wade’s Cosmic Journey: Falling Through Space
Chris Wade’s Falling Through Space exhibit has officially opened, and his work has transformed the studio into a galaxy of thought and memory. His Hot Rock piece, now the centerpiece of the gallery wall, anchors the collection with an energy that feels both grounded and expansive.
Arranging Chris’s work this week was a meditation in itself. Each frame, every alignment, became part of a larger rhythm. The result is a gallery wall that feels quilt-like—a patchwork of moments from across time and space.
If you haven’t yet seen Chris’s collection, this weekend might be the perfect time to stop by. There’s something undeniably special about standing in the presence of these pieces, letting them pull you into their orbit.
Crafting a Story, One Frame at a Time
This week, a walk-in design session reminded me why I love this craft. A client brought in portraits of a young woman standing in a sunlit field, holding a basket of sunflowers. As we explored different frame styles, we took our time, letting the choices breathe.
Framing isn’t just about preservation—it’s about honoring the story within the art. This project, simple as it may seem, became a quiet celebration of life’s fleeting, golden moments.
The Evolution of the Studio
Every week brings a new layer to the studio’s identity. Right now, there’s a tangible excitement about what’s next. The idea of turning the gallery wall into an online space has been circling my mind, and saying it out loud this week solidified its place on my to-do list. An online gallery feels like the natural next step—not just for the studio, but for the artists whose work I’m privileged to frame.
Lighting has also become a new obsession. The right glow can shift how a piece feels in a space, and I’ve been experimenting with LED strips and focused spots to create an atmosphere that feels both intimate and dynamic.
On the Horizon
Framing, at its core, is about creating spaces where art can breathe and shine. This week, the studio felt alive with that energy—a space not just for framing, but for discovery, connection, and storytelling.
Until next time,
